Progress Road upgrade stage 3

The Progress Road upgrade stage 3 at Richlands is part of Lord Mayor Campbell Newman’s Road Action Program - an unprecedented infrastructure investment that fast tracks 15 years of road works into just four years. The program delivers traffic congestion reduction, increased safety and improved access across Brisbane’s road network.

Following Council’s 2009/10 budget announcement, stage 3 of the Progress Road upgrade has been divided into two separate projects and will be delivered as stages 3a and 3b.

 

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Following Council’s 2009/10 budget announcement, stage 3 of the Progress Road upgrade has been divided into two separate projects and will be delivered as stages 3a and 3b.

 

Stage 3a: Garden Road to Teraba Street

Stage 3a involves widening Progress Road from two to six lanes between Garden Road and Teraba Street.

 

Council will continue to deliver this stage in conjunction with the Queensland Government’s Darra to Springfield Transport Corridor project. Council is contributing to and working with the Queensland Government on delivering the Garden Road and Progress Road works included in this project. Construction is expected to be completed by late 2011, weather permitting.

 

Stage 3b: Teraba Street to Boundary Road

Stage 3b involves widening Progress Road from two to four lanes between Teraba Street and Boundary Road.

 

Timing for this stage is uncertain at this time.

 

Features

Features of the Progress Road upgrade stages 3a and 3b will include:

·         new centre medians

·         new street lighting

·         cycling facilities

·         improved pedestrian links.

 

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

The Progress Road upgrade stages 3a and 3b aims to:

·         improve safety

·         reduce congestion during peak hours and increase efficiency, especially for freight

·         increase the capacity of Progress Road to cater for future traffic growth in the area

·         encourage active transport options by providing cycle lanes and footpaths

·         improve access to Ipswich, Logan and Centenary motorways

·         improve pedestrian and cyclist access to the new Richlands Rail Station.
