Scrub Road, Carindale extension

Brisbane City Council has extended the southern end of Scrub Road at Carindale to improve the local road network.

Project details

The Scrub Road extension involved extending Scrub Road for approximately 800 metres along an existing easement from Kirra Place, before deviating through an existing cleared Powerlink easement to Wecker Road. This route was selected because it had the least impact on nearby properties and the environment.

Construction began in March 2009 and finished in October 2009. The project involved constructing:

  • a two-lane road with one lane in each direction
  • roundabouts at Kirra Place, Aspen Street and Wecker Road intersections
  • an off-road shared pedestrian/cycle pathway.

The extension completes the north-south road network by providing the missing link between Carindale and Mansfield.

The project improves access to residential communities in the area, as well as providing broader citywide benefits to public transport, cyclists and general motor traffic.

The Scrub Road extension project is part of Lord Mayor Campbell Newman’s Road Action Program, which tackles congestion and improves safety on Brisbane’s 21 worst congested roads.

Involving 57 projects, the Road Action Program is an unprecedented infrastructure investment that fast tracks 15 years of road works into just four years. The program delivers traffic congestion reduction, increased safety, and improved access across Brisbane’s road network.
