- New facilities for cyclists and pedestrians
- Improved drainage
- More efficient public transport system by moving three bus stops to more appropriate locations
IMPACTS TO MOTORISTS AND LOCAL RESIDENTS DURING CONSTRUCTION
Construction of the Illaweena Street – Beaudesert Road to Gowan Road upgrade is planned to commence in early March 2010 and will take approximately 10 months, weather permitting.
Motorists and local residents may experience the following impacts during this time:
- possible short delays while machinery enters and exits worksites
- temporary lane closures
- speed limit reduced to 40km/h around work areas
- changes to pedestrian access – although safe access through the worksite will be maintained at all times
- general construction noise.
Safety is our number one priority during these works. Traffic controllers will be in place to assist motorists as necessary and will also escort students across Illaweena Street during school start and finish times.
Work will generally be undertaken between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday however some night works will be required. Local residents will be provided with advance notification of any out of hours works.
Recycled water will be used to suppress dust as much as possible.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank motorists and local residents for their patience and understanding during these important works to improve the safety and efficiency of this busy section of road.
Bus stop relocations
To improve the safety and efficiency of the public transport network, the following bus stops will be relocated as part of the project:
- “Waterstone” stop on the northern side of Illaweena Street – to be relocated 80 metres west to the opposite side of the Scrubby Creek Tributary
- “Tamarisk Way” stop on the southern side of Illaweena Street – to be relocated approximately 36 metres west, away from Tamarisk Way
- “Tamarisk Way” stop on the northern side of Illaweena Street – to be relocated 42 metres east, closer to Tamarisk Way.
The timing for relocating these bus stops has not yet been determined however signs will be posted at the stops prior to them being moved. Letters will also be sent to nearby residents.
