ABOUT THE PROJECT
In mid 2007, Brisbane City Council commenced planning and design work on four road improvement projects in the Manly West area. These projects formed the Manly West traffic improvements project which is divided into the following:
Construction of the Manly Road upgrade commenced in May 2009 and completed ahead of schedule in April 2010.
MANLY ROAD UPGRADE
The area between Manly and Wondall roads has a large number of community facilities which generate a high volume of traffic. The entry/exit to Lockwood Crescent on top of a crest creates significant visibility issues and has been the subject of safety concerns for many years.
The upgrade of Manly Road involves installing traffic signals at the Manly and Wondall roads intersection, widening the road to four lanes between Wondall Road and Arenga Street and changing access to Lockwood Crescent.
Since 2007, Council have been actively engaged with the Manly West community regarding these projects. We have achieved this through extensive consultation on road design, providing regular newsletter updates, a dedicated project information line and notifying local residents in advance of construction works and traffic changes.
COMMUNITY CONSULTATION
Community feedback on preliminary plans for the Manly West Traffic Improvements project was invited between late November 2008 and end of January 2009. Council would like to thank all property owners, residents and business owners who provided valuable input during this time.
A total of 148 submissions of feedback were received about the projects and Council spoke to approximately 120 people at the staffed public display sessions.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
- Improve traffic congestion at the Wondall Road and Manly Road intersection.
- Provide greater safety for cyclists and pedestrians by installing dedicated bicycle lanes, widened footpaths and two new bus bays.
- Improve safety and access for Bay Wood Estate residents.
