  • installing traffic signals with signalised pedestrian crossings on the western and southern sides of the intersection
  • widening the Seventeen Mile Rocks Road and Duporth Road approaches to the intersection
  • installing concrete centre medians on Seventeen Mile Rocks Road and Duporth Road
  • constructing retaining walls to cater for level differences
  • installing on-road bicycle lanes on Seventeen Mile Rocks Road
  • constructing new pedestrian footpaths
  • undertaking landscaping works.

A number of trees of varying sizes will need to be removed to provide space for the intersection upgrade.  These will be replaced with new trees during the final stages of the project.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

  • Reduced traffic congestion/improved traffic flow
  • Safer turning movements
  • Reduced delays for motorists using Duporth Road to access Seventeen Mile Rocks Road
  • New facilities for cyclists and pedestrians

IMPACTS TO MOTORISTS AND LOCAL RESIDENTS DURING CONSTRUCTION
Construction is expected to commence in early 2011 and will take approximately eight months, weather permitting.

Some lane closures may be required.  Where possible, these will be undertaken outside of peak traffic times.  Traffic controllers will be onsite to assist motorists as necessary.  Council will make every effort to minimise inconvenience to the local community.
