Padstow Road and Warrigal Road intersection upgrade

Brisbane City Council is upgrading the Padstow Road and Warrigal Road intersection at Eight Mile Plains to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety and access through the local area.

Background information

A planning study was carried out in 2008 to investigate the operation of the Padstow Road and Warrigal Road intersection, and the surrounding road network, to ensure traffic, pedestrians and cyclists could move safely through the area.

Throughout the planning study, Council provided opportunities for the community to provide feedback to the project team to help in developing a preferred upgrade option for the intersection.

Feedback received from the community indicated a preference for replacing the roundabout at Padstow Road and Warrigal Road with traffic signals. Technical study findings supported this option.

Project features

The Padstow Road and Warrigal Road intersection upgrade will involve:

  • removing the existing roundabout
  • installing traffic and pedestrian signals
  • changing the road layout to include separate through lanes and turning lanes
  • improving road markings and installing traffic islands to safely separate traffic
  • providing new cycle lanes to improve cyclist access
  • constructing an off-road shared cyclist and pedestrian path
  • upgrading bus stops.

Timing

Construction is planned to commence in early 2010 and will take approximately 12 months to complete, weather permitting.
